Here’s the geeklist with all the videos nicely embedded and a small written blurb to go along with them. When we get back we;ll make a nicer write up for the site, but I’ve been up all night just uploading so I don’t have the energy to really write a long article here also.

So here I am, at home with a bad cold. I hate being sick. You can’t really do anything, and you can’t exactly invite people over unless you’re an ass that doesn’t care if your friends get sick, but at the same time you feel lazy from sitting around. Pretty much your options are sleep, watch TV or play video games. The problem is that after a while of staring at an LCD screen your eye muscles start hurting too, and that just makes you feel even worse.

I wish that I could play games while sick. I realize I would probably royally stink at them in my condition, and that a Stuffed up sinus cavity doesn’t lend itself well to strategic thinking, but it’s always been the one thing that keep my mind off of all the other crap. I think if I could be involved in a large-scale game of Diplomacy for the two days it takes to get over the cold, then I’d forget all about it.

Maybe we should establish a “sick gamers” club. There’s always a time of the year when everyone has the flu or a cold or something. We could all get together at that point when we’re not feeling good and waste the time together. None of us would feel bad about it becasue everyine was already sick. It’s not like we’re infecting the innocent. Also, no one would be offended or grossed out about nose-blowing, coughing, sneezing and other sickness symptoms.

The only problem that might arise is that we should probably get a new copy of the game we play that we can incinerate afterwards, lest we open the box a year later, only to spread the cold to others. Heck, we can even use the heat generated to warm up a big bowl of Ramen. Depending on the game, there’s a lot of fuel available.

So let’s all band together with Kleenex in one hand, and Dice in the other, and say “Why can’t a sick day still be fun?” But you have to come to my house. There’s no way I’m leaving feeling like I do now……..

I thought I’d take a moment to mention to our readers that Deanna and Myself (Brian) will be attending BGG.CON in Dallas, Texas next week. We’ll be there from Wednesday through Sunday. We’d love to meet our fans and play some games with you. We have a busy schedule while we’re there. We will be conducting video interviews with the vendors and publishers all weekend and posting those to our site. We’re hoping to create a sort of video diary for people who couldn’t attend.

Also, we will be doing smaller interviews with the people we play games with, and get their opinions of games, and gaming in general.

At the end of the weekend we hope to record a “live” review talking about our overall impressions with the con and our favorite games played.

Let us know if there are any games you’d like us to try out and talk about, or if there’s a “must play” game that you think we should try out there.

Hope to see some friendly faces in the Lone Star State. See you all next week.

Here we go again. Back from a summer break in the action we’re producing and filming more episodes. First on our list was a small dexterity game we’ve had for a while and we love called. Elkfest.

Elkfest is a geat game for two-or-four players that can easily travel and be played on any surface.

Each player starts with a moose that they are trying to help cross a body of water. Those moose start on an island and have to make their way across by stepping on “stones” that us, the moose wranglers, flick in front of their path.

the first person to get their moose safely to the other players island wins.

I love this game. the things that make it great to me is simplicity. I think the biggest thing I like seeing in a game, is simplicity in the base of the rules set, b ut complexity in how you choose to play the game within those rules. Elkfest accomplishes this with ease. It’ll take at most 5 minutes to show your friends how to play, but the strategy they employ on escorting their hoofed friend can vary greatly. Do you play defensively and keep all your stones together, or do you mess with your opponent, and constantly use one of your shots to send a stone halfway across the table from him.

I like any game where the surface of the table you play on determines the size you are playing on. Other great examples of this feature are Carcassonne, and Wings of War. I’ve played this on our coffee table, on our dining room table with the leaves installed and a few other surfaces, and you have to play differently whereever you are.

It also is a very easily scalable game in terms of length of play. you want a long game? Great, find a conference table and have your moose ford the Mighty Mississippi. you want a short game? Alright, just put your islands a foot apart. You’ll be done in 10 minutes.

All in all, a great little game that can be packed up in a Ziplock baggie and played in a hotel, a cafeteria, or a Motor home. we’ll be back soon, but in the meantime enjoy the wildlife (I’m talking about the moose, not Mark and Myself)

Because of that none of us have really been able to get together to PLAY many games, let alone make review videos. It looks like things are calming down a little now though, and we’re cooking up which reviews to do in the very near future.

We have some larger projects in the works also, and look forward to suppliying your every gaming need.

Thanks for you support. If you have suggestions for the next videos let us know in a comment and if we have access to it and love the game we’ll get right on it.

Retro Gaming Bonanza from Brian Stevenson on Vimeo.

We’re kind of hitting the groove in terms of getting videos out regularly, and we feel comfortable in our knowledge of the games.

We found that the reviews that get looked at and commented about the most are the most popular and newest games we review. I guess it makes sense, but at the same time why would people want to watch videos about games they already knew about?

When we originally started we wanted to do reviews of very off-the-beaten-path games and help people find gems they had never heard of. We still do that once in a while, but for the most part we want to feel like the 10-20 hours in video, editing, and posting aren’t being wasted so we tend to veer more towards the mainstream, if not highly ranked games.

Anyways, there were a lot of games we really wanted to talk about but knew that they wouldn’t hold up to a review on their own so we decided to do a retro games review revue.

Theses are all the older games we’ve been playing our whole lives, and ones that we remember from childhood that are still great games even now that our gaming vocabulary has increased.

We hope you enjoy.

We made a geeklist also, so feel free to comment there about any specific games. We’d love to hear your own experiences with these great old games.
