So here I am, at home with a bad cold. I hate being sick. You can’t really do anything, and you can’t exactly invite people over unless you’re an ass that doesn’t care if your friends get sick, but at the same time you feel lazy from sitting around. Pretty much your options are sleep, watch TV or play video games. The problem is that after a while of staring at an LCD screen your eye muscles start hurting too, and that just makes you feel even worse.
I wish that I could play games while sick. I realize I would probably royally stink at them in my condition, and that a Stuffed up sinus cavity doesn’t lend itself well to strategic thinking, but it’s always been the one thing that keep my mind off of all the other crap. I think if I could be involved in a large-scale game of Diplomacy for the two days it takes to get over the cold, then I’d forget all about it.
Maybe we should establish a “sick gamers” club. There’s always a time of the year when everyone has the flu or a cold or something. We could all get together at that point when we’re not feeling good and waste the time together. None of us would feel bad about it becasue everyine was already sick. It’s not like we’re infecting the innocent. Also, no one would be offended or grossed out about nose-blowing, coughing, sneezing and other sickness symptoms.
The only problem that might arise is that we should probably get a new copy of the game we play that we can incinerate afterwards, lest we open the box a year later, only to spread the cold to others. Heck, we can even use the heat generated to warm up a big bowl of Ramen. Depending on the game, there’s a lot of fuel available.
So let’s all band together with Kleenex in one hand, and Dice in the other, and say “Why can’t a sick day still be fun?” But you have to come to my house. There’s no way I’m leaving feeling like I do now……..
