Online Board Games

There are several sites out there that will allow you to play board games online.  I’ve even covered a version of Carcassonne I found online way back when.  But what if you want to play Tichu, Puerto Rico, or Pandemic?

Well, thanks to Brian, I’ve found BretSpielWelt.  A German site that has versions of all of the above mentioned games and many more.  Stone Age, Settlers of Catan, Dominion, all can be found and played easily through your browser.

One suggestion, don’t use Google Chrome for this site.  Sure it’s fast, but I don’t think the creators of BretSpielWelt have optimized for Chrome.  I’ve had no trouble with Firefox though.

Actually Yucata.de, also in Germany has a much better interface in my opinion. The method for creating and joining games is 10 times better than BSW.

They don’t have the same selection of games but they have a lot of the Rio Grande games and because it is fully authorized, the game boards are exactly like the real thing.

Yucata.de is turn based though. While it is easier to get rolling in a game, it is more frustrating to play during game. This may depend on the game, however, as I believe different people actually write and submit the game interfaces to the game engines. The one I mostly play is Stone Age.
