The most expensive game I’ve ever bought

Posted by: In: Game Life

100_0747I LOVE MY WIFE!  There aren’t many women around who wouldn’t smack you in the face and call you an idiot if you went out and spent $200 dollars on a board game.  I ordered a Hilinski brothers Crokinole board last month and it finally came in.  It’s title is “Much Too Fat…and a Bit Too Long”  They hand-make all the boards and name all of them.

I’d heard about Crokinole for a long time on boardgamegeek.com and had wanted one.  It was a kind of Holy Grail Game like Pitch Car or the expansions for RoboRally.  You could never really justify the cost.  Well, Last month I worked a lot of overtime and did some really nice things for my wife so she said I deserved a present.  When I jokingly asked if it could be a Crokinole board she said yes.  I think I almost peed myself.  I got online and E-mailed the makers and they told me it would be about thirty days.

We were on a trip in San Diego when they shipped the board and I was worried that FedEx would send it back because I wasn’t home to receive it, but the apartment complex came through and I got to pick it up at the office.

It’s really nice.  All hard wood and you can tell the guys care about making it look nice.  The finish is glass smotth and it is FAST!  The only complaints I have (and they are minor ones) is that a couple of the posts are a little crooked and that the black discs for the set have a drastically different speed due to the paint on them. I don’t think the Hilinskis make their own discs so I can’t fault them for that.  I think I might be in line to buy a nicer set of discs.

So now I have the table and it’s already got around 15-20 hours of game play on it.  That’s only ten bucks and hour really, right?  We hung it on the wall by our gaming table.  I love the thing.  I don’t really think it’s so much of a board game as it would be like getting an Air hockey Table or a Fooseball table.

Anyways,  I thought I’d share my joy and a few pictures.  I video taped a mini-review of how to play that will be up tomorrow, so enjoy.
